Ron Rayner, an advisory committee member for the USDA NIFA Sustainable Agricultural Systems (SAS) project on sustaining groundwater-dependent agriculture in the Southwest, was recently honored with an honorary doctorate from the University of Arizona in recognition of his longstanding leadership in Western irrigated agriculture. As a fourth-generation farmer and respected agricultural leader, Rayner has played an important role in guiding the project’s stakeholder engagement efforts, providing practical insight on groundwater challenges, conservation practices, and the realities facing producers across Arizona and California.
